    Mason O’Farrell completed his Architectural Registration Exams (ARE) in January (2024) to become a licensed Architect. He has been with Koch Hazard Architects since 2020 following four years in Colorado working at DLR Group in Denver. Mason has a Master of Architecture degree and Design-Build certificate from the University of Colorado Denver and is a South Dakota State University graduate. 

    Some of Mason’s current project experience includes the New Dining Center on the Children’s Home Society campus (Sioux Falls, SD), Early Childhood Center (Yankton, SD) and several smaller renovation projects located in downtown Sioux Falls.

    Koch Hazard Architects collaborates with great clients to achieve their goals through innovative design. The firm, founded in 1961, is a professional service firm of 16 architects, interior designers and planners in Sioux Falls, SD. For the past 20 years, Koch Hazard Architects has had more projects recognized with AIA South Dakota Design Awards than any other firm in the state. Each Koch Hazard project is a unique, innovative response to a specific set of client needs and project circumstances.

    Koch Hazard Architects is excited to announce that Shawn Barron joined the team. Shawn joined Koch Hazard Architects following five years with Studio Gang Architects in Chicago, IL. He is a licensed architect. Shawn graduated with a Master in Architecture degree from Iowa State University and Bachelor of Science in Architecture degree from South Dakota State University. He studied abroad for one year with the Beckman Scholars Program at Tongji University in Shanghai. 

    Some of his project experience includes O’Hare Global Terminal (Chicago, IL), Kresge College Academic Center (Santa Cruz, CA) and University of Kentucky College of Design (Lexington, KY).

    The South Dakota Hall of Fame announced the 2024 inductees on May 7, 2024 at The Steel District. Jeff Hazard (1955-2019) is being recognized in the general category. Ten South Dakotans were chosen whose lives have helped shape excellence in the state and beyond.

    “A Thoughtful Community Builder”

    Jeff Hazard, along with a dedicated team, built a strong architecture practice in the Sioux Falls area, beginning in 1988. Hazard produced thoughtful projects, approaching each design with earnest inquiry. His designs can be seen across South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa. Hazard’s work has been recognized at the local, state and national levels, with nearly 50 projects recognized through the American Institute of Architects South Dakota Chapter Design Awards program. Hazard’s leadership in the community was felt through his participation on over 30 boards. His contributions to the architecture of South Dakota will be felt for generations. Hazard relentlessly pursued the idea of continuous improvement and inspired and mentored those around him to do the same.

    Rapid City, SD – March 21, 2024   

    TSP, Inc., a multidisciplinary architecture, engineering, and planning firm, is pleased to announce the temporary relocation of its Rapid City office. The temporary move is a first step as TSP prepares to relocate to a new office, which will build upon the firm’s more than 50-year commitment to the Black Hills region.

     

    The investment in a new office will help TSP continue its legacy of providing exceptional customer service for a growing client base and maintaining a dynamic work environment.

     

    “The new office will enhance the creativity and cohesiveness of our experienced team,” said Mark Averett, TSP principal and Rapid City office leader. “The office design promotes modern technology and collaborative spaces to encourage innovation. I think these factors will contribute to our continued success.” 

     

    Effective April 1, and until construction is completed on the new office, TSP will temporarily move to 677 Cathedral Drive, Suite 302 in Rapid City. All phone numbers and email addresses will remain unchanged during the transition period.

     

    TSP’s permanent office building will be in the Skyline Pines East Subdivision on East Fairmont Boulevard. The 5,600-square-foot office will be just west of the main Monument Health campus and will be visible from Mount Rushmore Road. Construction is expected to be completed in late 2024.

    Jared Nesje named to Leaders & Legacies list

    Prairie Business selects 2024 honorees

    Sioux Falls, SD – July 10, 2024    

    Jared Nesje, CEO and principal at TSP, Inc. has been named a Prairie Business Magazine Leaders & Legacies award winner for 2024.

    The annual award is given to top executives in the region to recognize their contributions to business as well as the positive impact they have made on their organizations, communities, and industries.

    Prairie Business covers South Dakota, North Dakota, and western Minnesota, and seeks nominations from its coverage area each year.

    Nesje earned a bachelor’s degree in architecture and environmental design from North Dakota State University. He is a registered architect in South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, and Nebraska.

    Nesje is only the fifth CEO to lead TSP, Inc. and the first architect in the position since Harold T. Spitznagel founded the company in 1930.

    “We are excited to announce the 2024 Leaders & Legacies award honorees,” said Prairie Business Editor Carrie McDermott. “We are thrilled to honor these top executives from our region. They are the region’s leaders who are role models for the next generation.”

    Profiles of each of the eight recipients are included in the July issue of Prairie Business.
